Connection in Madrid

Flying in September - DFW to Madrid, flight 36, arrives Madrid 9:05 AM. Then wanting to continue same day to Athens. Prefer Iberia, and they have a flight at 10:40. I believe AA and Iberia both use Terminal 4. We will have carry on bags only. Would we go through customs in Madrid or Athens? Is this connection too tight?

It might not be too tight if the flights are on time, but don’t linger anywhere. My recent experience transferring at Madrid was that the people going on to connecting flights had a much shorter immigration line than those staying in Madrid. It took less than half hour to get through that, but I was also not in the back of the plane. From there, it’s another half hour to get to the tram that takes you from terminal 4s to terminal 4 (assuming this is where yours leaves from), and then walk to wherever the gate is it T4. This is a very big terminal and there will be lots of walking, which is why it’s doable if everything works out, unless I just got lucky.

If the flight is late, then you’ll have problems. I think people here will tell you to look at what flights are available later, just in case.

I assume that you are buying separate tickets since you already seem to have the DFW to Madrid flight.
I would not book a flight that close on separate tickets. You might make it on one ticket.

Do you have one ticket that is DFW-MAD-ATH?

I see AA sells it the way you plan.

You will do immigration/passport control in Madrid. The mostly non event of 'Customs' will occur in Athens

Is this connection too tight?

If it were the airline would not sell it.
