we are thinking of spending 3 months this winter in Competa Spain would like some reviews on renting and should we book in advance?Has anybody spent Jan to April there?

I don't know that town at all, but check the calendar carefully. If you're traveling on a US or Canadian passport, you are limited to 90 days (not 3 months) within any 180-day period in the Schengen Zone, of which Spain is a part.
Both arrival day and departure day are counted. Overstaying the 90-day limit may result in a substantual fine and being banned from the zone.

I am from Spain and I have never heard of Competa, had to Google it lol! To me 3 months in such a small village sounds more like a sentence than a vacation ;)

I was in Cómpeta as a daytrip while on a RoadScholar trip in March.
I don't know if you have been there, but getting there involved miles of very narrow, winding roads.
