It's far more practical (and cheaper) to swap your SIM for a local SIM. Just sayin'.

I looked at it. WiFi hot spot gives access for up to 5 devices - phones, iPads, etc. Also it ALWAYS works on all phones. SIM card is temperamental and may not work on all phones, not use all needed frequencies an so on. WiFi calling is free on my phone and as far as Verizon concern I am in USA and all calls coming and going without cell tower. I am just looking for somebody who used one and can advice.

Yes I get what you mean... but... when not in the hotel, if you're using your US SIM then you're roaming, and that's expensive. That's why I was recommending a local SIM, because for say 15€ you can have 4Gb of data (up to 7GB for 21€).

Besides, correct me but, wouldn't you still need a local SIM for cheap connectivity with a pocket WIFI? the device needs a connection to the Internet anyway, right?

If you were referring to those pocket WiFi with locked SIMs that only allow to connect to that company's hot spots then I'm afraid you might find yourself quite restricted here because our market is very competitive in the communications area so with the option of cheap SIMs, the penetration of these "other services" is really very low.

I am sorry, I think I was not clear in my question. I want to RENT WiFi hotspot which is already connected to local cell service. You pay daily fee and get data and access. http://www.wifivox.com/ is on of the services. There are many others and that is where I am not sure on price/value/reliability.

Ah ok, I see... so you're renting the above device AND the SIM :) The one you mention is linked to the network of Vodafone -one of the major players. Too bad they don't offer 4G with this device... 3G sucks in Barcelona because it's a city with a very heavy use of the spectrum so anything but 4G is rather a nuisance these days if you intend to use the Internet very often that is.

For 7€/day is not a bad option, yet I'm afraid I can't give you any feedback on these services as we don't use them :(... for the reason stated above, a SIM is very cheap.

SIM card worked fine on Samsung S4 and Moto Turbo2 in France, Italy and Spain. Had to swap out in each country. Easy to find places to buy SIM cards.
