Combining Mezquita and Royal Stables as a day trip from Seville?

My husband, our friend Vickie, and I are heading back to Europe - leaving Charlotte March 28 and returning April 12.....this time we're heading to Seville (5 nights), Granada (3 nights) and Madrid (6 nights). We fly into Madrid and immediately head to Seville; we'll take trains between all three points. We have Airbnb apartments rented in all three cities, so we don't want any additional over-night trips if at all possible. We already have our Alhambra tickets reserved as well as our seats on the March 29 AVE out of Madrid through Loco2 - worked like a charm. At this point we plan to take day trips to Cordoba out of Seville and Segovia out of Madrid. I'm hoping for some help as to planning the Cordoba trip. We'd like to see the Mezquita (OF COURSE) but would also like to see a show at the Royal Stables. According to the Cordoba website, it looks like there is a Sunday show at the Stables at noon - not so clear on the Stables site. It appears that the shows the rest of the week are all at 8 PM, and we'd prefer not to be taking trains at that hour if we can help it. My husband has a condition that affects his sense balance in the dark. Is there, in fact, a Sunday noon show, and if so, would it be easy to see the Mezquita after that - and how long should we allocate for visiting the mosque/cathedral? Should we reserve the tickets for the horse show online from here at home or get them at the time of the show? As I mentioned, the site itself does not appear to be the easiest from which to get information. Using the Rick Steves 2015 guide and the forum has been SO helpful in navigating this trip - it's amazing how many questions I had that were answered by checking archived questions. Thanks to all in advance. Diane

Yes, you can easily see both--if thereis a noon show. I looked at several booking sides and they all come back to this page:

http://www.reservasturismodecordoba.org/Publicacion/DetallePublicacion/700?muestraFormulario=True#

The booking link is not "live". It appears they have not loaded the 2017 schedule yet----the one on this page only goes through December. Just keep checking back.

We went to the show in May, during the Patio Festival. We only heard of it when we arrived at our hotel, and we were very disappointed to learn that the 8:00 show was sold out. But then they added a 7 pm show and we were able to see that. We had the pleasure of commentary from an elderly Spanish gentleman--- he asked if the seat at the end of the ronantes being saved for someone, and I respondrd "esta para Usted, Señor." From that he must have assumed we understood Spanish better than we actually did,but we got at least half of his commentary. The staff gave him a lot of deference, so he must have had some connection with the stables---perhapsnone of the trainers. He said he owned horses, previously many, but now only one. He said the combined age of his horse and him was 116 ( so he must have been at least 86). We also understood his comment that "a good horse is more beautiful and more loyal than a woman". We both chuckled, and I agreed with him that there is nothing more beautiful than an Andalusian horse.

Note that the light in the Mezquita is rather dim---I hope that does not affect your husband's experience there.

Diane,

Yes, you can easily visit the Mezquita & attend the equestrian show at the Royal Stables in one day in beautiful Córdoba ;-)

My mom & I attended the (one hour) show and enjoyed it very much. We were there in October (2015) & the show was outdoors, but it seems to be indoors during the winter months. We purchased our tickets at the Royal Stables one hour prior to the start of the show, but I don't know how crowded it may get in March/April, so it's wise to buy in advance online.

You can buy your tickets at cordobaecuestre.com. The site is in Spanish & it's easy to follow.

I just tried to "buy" tickets, so I can guide you as to how to go about it:

  1. click on, "Comprar Entradas del Espectáculo", which will take you to another webpage where...
  2. You will see the hours to visit the stables, and the schedule of the equestrian show: "Espectáculo Pasión y Duende del Caballo Andaluz". Scroll down to see the calendar with available tickets & prices. You will want to choose the €15 ticket for "Adulto", or there are €20 tickets for the, "Zona Premium", which I presume are the ones for the front row.

  3. On the top left of the calendar, you can select the month you want-- tickets are not yet available for March/April, so I'd check in a few weeks. (I tried to buy tickets for the last Sunday of this month)

  4. Click on the €15 (green bar) corresponding to the date you desire, and you will see that one ticket will be added to your shopping cart (top right), so click 3 times if you need 3 tickets.

  5. Once you're done with step #4, click on the shopping cart icon, verify information, then click on, "Ver Cesta" (see basket)

  6. If information is correct (date & number of tickets), click on, "Confirmar", (confirm), or "seguir comprando" (continue shopping) or "vaciar carrito" (empty cart)

  7. check the tiny square next to; "Declaro haber leido y aceptar las Condiciones de compra y la Política de privacidad de nuestra web. (I declare to have read and accept the terms and conditions of purchase and the policy privacy of our website); then click on "confirmar pedido" (confirm order)

  8. Lastly you will get to the payment page where you'll click on the black bar with the words; "Continuar con la compra segura" (continue with safe payment), then I presume there will be another place where you'll click on, "Pagar" (pay) to complete the payment.

  9. I read part of the terms & conditions (you may want to read it yourself) where it explains that you will receive an email confirmation within in 24 hours (of receipt of payment), with all the detailed information about your purchase, along with tickets (containing a bar code), that you can print & will present on day of the show for validation.

  10. PLEASE NOTE... Somewhere between steps 4 and 6, you'll need to register by entering your name, email address, phone number and such, before continuing with the purchase.

I almost forgot... Make sure you bring your some TP/ tissues, because there may not be any in the bathrooms at Royal Stables.

Have a wonderful trip!

Nice work, Priscilla! I could not get the "book tickets" link to work at all---maybe because I was on my iPad? Anyway, I am glad you found that information for them.

Hi Lola,

I could not get the "book tickets" link to work at all-

I couldn't get the link to work either!

Fortunately I found the other website that seems to work.

Denise,

Please give us an update for future reference.

Diane,

I just remembered something important.

We attended the equestrian show on a Sunday (at noon), we then walked to the Mezquita only to find out that it was closed to visitors until 3pm. There was a mass in session at the time, and the guard at the entrance would not allow us to enter until I explained that we wanted to attend the mass. After mass, we were ushered out rather quickly, so we went back another day. Since you only have one day there, you can visit the Mezquita in the morning, or after 3pm. I was told that it's very crowded at 3pm, so it's best to wait till 4pm or later.
Here is the schedule for the Mezquita

Enjoy!

I went to the show in the evening in winter (February) and it was indoors. There is very limited indoor seating so you should book in advance. There's more to see in Cordoba besides the Mezquita to fill up the time.

I think most people spend about 2 hours or less seeing the Mezquita. A few people I talked to there were frustrated and having a lot of trouble following the audio guide - there are no signs to identify what you are seeing. The shops around the Mezquita (and in the Juderia) sell guide books that include large sections about the Mezquita and make a nice souvenir. Inside, there are a few benches where you can sit and rest for a few minutes, and of course, seats in the cathedral. Take a few minutes to look up at the ceilings. Binoculars will help you see the beautiful detail. Dress warmly - it's cold inside. It's also worthwhile to walk all the way around the outside. And the orange garden inside is accessible without a ticket.

Chani -- thank you so much. Much of my planning for this trip has been aided by your posts.
