Coastal towns in southern Spain and/or Portugal Air Portugal Stopover Program

Planning a trip to Spain and Portugal next fall and would like to spend a few days in a coastal town in the South for a relaxing few days. Looking for a place like one of the towns in Cinque Terre ( we loved Monterosso) but even less touristy if possible. Also preferably accessible by train. Any suggestions will be welcome.

Also exploring the Stopover program for Portugal Airlines. great idea but not sure if it works as well as described. Curious if anyone has tried it and comments. thank you

It is doubtful you will find a Cirque Terre in Spain and Portugal.
The Algarve region of Portugal is very popular and is kind of like Florida to tourists from the UK. Faro is the big airport.
We were on the coast of Spain in April. We found two cities visited to be very congested with an overabundance of high rise condos. Our next trip to Spain will be to the interior of the country.
Vueling is another budget airline that serves Spain and Portuga! well.

Though it might not be a good fit to your question since it's not in the south, Cadaques is a lovely coastal town in Girona. Not very touristy, gorgeous views, and nice laid back atmosphere. We had a great time there.

We stayed at the Parador in Mojacar and enjoyed it. It’s right across the street from the beach, so one could spend time at the beach, or at the pool. We also enjoyed the beach at Salobrena. Not certain how accessible they are by train since we had a rental car. Not certain when in the fall you’re going, but Rota is nice. Off season it is very quiet and one can take the ferry to Cadiz if you wanted to visit it. The best hotel in Rota is the Duque de Najera.
