We would like to go to a professional classical guitar performance during our one-week stay in Madrid 4/22-4/29. I don't know who is among the revered guitarists, or what venues might feature him or her. I'm at a loss, as you can see. Any advice would be appreciated. (Again, not a flamenco guitarist.)
Thanks to your post here I've just spent an hour scouring event listing for my two upcoming visits to Madrid, the second immediately preceding yours. I didn't see any classical guitar listed anywhere. (But I did see a bunch of other stuff I'm just missing on one side or another...)
Thanks for looking Scudder. I'm glad your scouring the internet helped you some in your quest for entertainment, if not actually finding a guitarist for me. No one else has responded at all. Maybe it's just not a thing.
Hi Karen, when we were planning our trip to Spain in 2017, I really wanted to hear some excellent Spanish classical guitar. I researched and found a concert location, but unfortunately for you, it’s in Ronda. The accomplished guitarist is Paco Seco (you can hear some on YouTube.) and he gives concerts in the back half of his music store almost nightly. I stopped at his shop on the way to walking to our hotel and purchased tickets - wonderful concert!
I’m replying for two reasons. First, in case you happen to expand your trip, there’s that option. The other reason is that I did also hear a lone person playing classical guitar in a couple of old center squares in the evenings - one was in Toledo which you might be seeing. Otherwise, I would definitely ask your hotel staff. They may know of something similar to what I experienced in Ronda.
LOL! Karen, the place you will probably receive great information was in my last post! Stop at the guitar shops in Madrid, and they will know! Or even some of Madrid’s luthiers workshops.
