Christmas Market Draft Itinerary Spain

After multiple Christmas Market trips to Germany, France and Croatia, we are considering a two week trip to Spain the first half of December 2026 to enjoy pre-Christmas festivities. We’ve been to Spain before, but not at this time of year and not all of the cities in our itinerary. My draft itinerary includes Madrid, Caceres (new to us), Seville, Granada/Ronda , Antequera (new to us) and Malaga (also new to us). Travel will be via train.

Would you recommend this itinerary? I would really appreciate your feedback on those new-to-us towns. What other suggestions do you have for enjoying special towns in southern Spain and their Christmas spirit?

I can’t speak to the train aspect of your trip since I always have a rental car, but check the schedules to ensure the trains go where you need them to without having to backtrack. Then adjust the itinerary as needed. It may be quicker to take a bus from Cáceres to Sevilla than the train. Ensure you take travel time into consideration when determining how long to stay in one place.

In 2024 we spent two nights in Cáceres at the Parador and felt it was the right amount of time to see the city. The historic center and main plaza are not huge and easily walkable. Almost every street is on an incline with some spots steeper than others. If you were going to take day trips then you’d need much more time.

On that same trip and in that area we also spent nights in Mérida, Trujillo, Guadalupe, and Plasencia. Each is worth visiting if you had the time.
