Christmas in Madrid

My family and I are planning a 3 week journey to Spain/Portugal during and over Christmas and New Years. Currently, our plan is to spend Christmas in Madrid and New Years in Sevilla. We would welcome any traveler hints (eating, sites, etc.) that would help make our trip incredible. Thank you!

It was a few years we spent New Years in Sevilla. Sevilla started shutting down around 3 pm on New Year's eve. All the bars, restaurants were closed by 6pm.. Around 11.30 pm the crowd began to gather in the square in front of the bell tower. Lots of fireworks, some thrown glass and bottles. and everyone had their twelve grapes to consume with each ringing of the bell at midnight. Very friendly crowd but the fireworks around the feet was a little unnerving. Around 12.30 am everyone went home. Everything was closed on New Years Day. We been advised by our tour guide the previous day to lay in a good supply for the day. We did. Our hotel had a roof top garden it was great place for our picnics. On NY's day we wonder the city and especially the parks. Lots of people were out and about but not much too do.

Well, by 12:30am people continue partying in the streets and bars for hours into dawn...all over Spain.

If you'll still be there on Jan 6th you'll want to add it to your holiday planning. The Feast of the Epiphany/3 Kings/Reyes Magos is traditionally the more important Christmas celebration in Spain.
