Christmas in Andalucia

Greetings! My son is spending this semester in Granada and my young adult daughter, husband, and I plan to spend Christmas with him in Andalucia. We have some limitations based on daughter's schedule (she can't leave DC before 12/18 and must arrive back in DC by late night on 12/26). My son can only remain in the Shengen region until 12/28(+/- 1 day).

I'm booking the three of us flights into Malaga arriving on 12/19 and then we will take the bus to Granada. We'll spend a few days there, letting my son show us around and visit the Alhambra. We had thought we would take the train from Granada to Sevilla on 12/22 or 12/23 and spend Christmas there. BUT best flight I could get my daughter was out of Madrid at 1pm on 12/26. I'm worried that would be too tight for her to get to Madrid on the train. Should we simplify and spend Christmas in Cordoba instead and skip Sevilla? It looks like they have a lot going on for Christmas! https://www.turismodecordoba.org/cordoba-is-christmas-christmas-programme-in-cordoba

After my daughter leaves, my son, my husband, and I will fly back through Dublin (Aer Lingus) to Boston, spending a few more days in Ireland (cold and wet, but outside the Shengen. (If any of you have college age kids, you won't ask me why he couldn't get a student visa!) Aer Lingus does have a flight through Seville, so one option would be for the three of us to take the train to Seville when daughter leaves for Madrid and spend one night there before flying out. Advice is most welcome! Thanks in advance!

I personally would not want to travel to Seville to spend just one night.
Cordoba is my favourite Spanish city, so I'd do Christmas there. It also reduces the travelling time from Granada.

Sadly, a week is not enough time to sample all of Andalucia, so you do have to make
some choices/compromises.

Regarding daughter's return flight, I think you will find most people on the forum recommend
staying in the gateway city the night before, just to eliminate any unforeseen issues that
might occur (worker strike, snafu on the rail lines, weather, etc) trying to get to the airport
on the day of flight.

In addition to that, the train into Atocha or Chamartin still leaves you with a connection to
airport bus, subway, or commuter rail to get to the airport. And there are multiple terminals
at the airport not interconnected. If your daughter is familiar with getting around Madrid
and the airport, maybe the 7:19am - 9:15am train works, but if not, I'd say she should take
a late train Christmas night back to Madrid. There are decent hotels within a quick walk
of Atocha.

As for Christmas, one night in Sevilla is not even close to enough, so save it for another
trip. So yes, I'd say go to Cordoba instead.

Your daughter is due at the airport by 10 AM (unless her airline has an earlier deadline at that airport). I agree with the others that she should be in Madrid the night before. My philosophy is that I want to be an affordable taxi ride away from my departure airport in case public transportation lets me down. Cordoba is not close to Madrid. Although the express trains make the run in about 2 hours, ViaMichelin estimates the driving time to Atocha Station (airport is farther away) at 4 to 5 hours. If there was a last-minute problem with the train, it would be too late to start driving to Madrid.

I'm a little confused by your dates. But the most "Christmassy" place in Andalucia is Malaga. Could you arrive there, visit Granada and then go back to Malaga? So far as I understand your plan, I'd skip Cordoba and Sevilla and just focus on Granada and Malaga.
