Check in Time Barcelona airport; hotel recommendations....

Would like to fly from Seville to Barcelona the morning before our 11:45 flight to US. We arrive at the BCN airport at 8:30. Will this give me enough time to go through the security/custom lines?

Also, hotel recommendations in Sevilla, Cordoba and Granada.

Many thanks and for past posts also!

The general recommendation is three hours so you are within that window. You will not have any customs lines as both Seville and Barcelona are in Spain and in the Schengen zone. Exit immigration should not take too long either.

However, I would not do it IF it is two separate tickets. The big risk is missing your flight to the US and that could be a big headache and expensive if something should go wrong. If the plane from Seville is delayed or canceled, you have a big problem with no alternative. If it is all one ticket, then you have no problems since the airline will responsible for getting you home if there is a problem with the first leg.

It sounds like this is two tickets.... and if it is assuming you are on time you are fine

But... that flight from Seville is delayed it's going to be costly. You will have missed the BCN to "where ever" flight. At that point the airline can look at you, smile and say "a one way fare is X thousand $" and "the next available flight is next Tuesday" or whatever they want. They have no liability! I would not do it. I fly in the night before!

As for hotel recommendations, it would probably be good to give a budget and what you need in the hotel.

Do not do it! The flight may be scheduled to arrive at 8:30 AM, but even if it is on time, when will you actually get to the check-in counter for the overseas flight?

I flew back from Barcelona on August 12 last year. I was in line for about an hour at the airline check-in counter alone. I made my flight, but if I hadn't gotten to the airport 3 hours ahead of time (coming from downtown Barcelona, so really no risk of significant delay), I would have been very, very nervous standing in that line.

Fly into Barcelona the afternoon before your flight home. Find a hotel not too far from the Pl. Catalunya so you can easily hop on the Aerobus the next morning. Spend the evening seeing a bit of Barcelona.

Of course, these problems only apply to separate tickets. If you were to buy a two-segment flight entirely on one "real' airline, they would try to remedy a failed connection at no cost. This has happened to me on Lufthansa more than once, and even when their partner, United, was involved.
