I swear I answered this question earlier. Where did it go???? With four people the taxi will be the cheapest and most convenient. It will depend a little bit on where the cruise ship docks. There is a close in area and a far out area. Sometimes the cruise ship will provide a shuttle to the Columbus statue if docked at far location. Then take a taxi from there.

Or if you want to take the metro ...
Line 3 (green) from Drassanes (by Columbus Column) to Passeig de Gracia (3 stops),
Change to Line 2 (purple) for Sagrada Familia (3 stops).

Most cruise ships moor at the Moll Adossat, in the far out side of the Port Vell (Old Port) -note we have three ports in Barcelona, and no, they are not close to each other. There's a taxi rank in Moll Adossat and taxi is indeed your best bet, especially being four of you -your kids would have to pay full fare in public transportation because they're 4 y.o. or older. Taxis in Barcelona are cheap, a fare to Sagrada Família can cost you maybe 15€ (under normal circumstances) and would include the supplement of 3.10€ which is charged for arriving/departing from the port. There's also the option of taking the T3 bus line to Columbus Statue and then the metro as mentions but as you can see it requires several transfers and more time to get to SF. Cost-wise we're talking about 15€ for a taxi ride so you'd be saving peanuts anyway.

Check with your cruise company see where they will dock. We been to Barcelona three times. Twice we docked at the main cruise terminal and could walk to the Columbus statute and once we were shuttled by the cruise company to the the statute. If you are on a mega ship, then you may be dock further away because the larger ships cannot use the closer in docks.
