Chalet in the Pyrenees

Hello,

We're a young couple + 1yr old that'll be travelling end of April to the Spanish Pyrenees.

Doing quite a bit of research, can't seem to find what we're looking for exactly.

We're looking for to stay ~4-5 nights in a small village with mountain scenery around us, with some grass for the young one. We'd like the village to serve as a base camp for 3-4 hr day hikes with dramatic mountain scenery/lakes.

We'll be landing in Barcelona, but willing to do the extra mile in order to reach such a village. (4hr drive max)

Would appreciate a recommendation :)

Vall de Núria, may be just what you are after. It's not technically a village, but it does have a mountain resort, next to a lake, with good access to hiking and activities. The resort is only accessible by a rack railway, so you may want to rethink renting a car. Take the train from Barcelona to Puigcerdà, but get off at Ribes de Freser, and from there you take the rack railway up to Vall de Núria.

However, April may not be the best time to visit the Pyrenees, there's a good chance it will still be cold and chilly, even snow, and many things may be closed. I would maybe consider pushing back your travel to late May or early June at the earliest, the weather will start to be much more pleasant then.

Here is the summer website for the Vall de Núria resort: https://www.valldenuria.cat/en/summer/

Echoing above, please check the weather. I know the French (haute) Pyrenees received heavy snowfall recently. I was there in late May/early June a few years ago and we had snow and some trails were not passable due to lingering conditions from the winter. I know you said Spain not France, but I would still keep tabs on things. April is early.

The company I used was Mountainbug. Even if not staying with them, they may be a good resource to help you find the type of chalet/village you are seeking—the company owners have young kids.
