I am hoping to see the prehistoric caves by way of a cruise stop in Bilbao. Has anyone been successful in booking a tour while on a cruise stop there?
There are a number of caves one can visit in northern Spain. Which are you referring to?
Some useful info: you cannot visit any real caves any more in the Basque Country, you have to go west of Bilbao for around one hour and a half drive to the neighboring region of Cantabria, where visits are feasible. But most of the visits are in Spanish only, with previous booking and on scheduled times. Some I like very much are Las Monedas and El Castillo caves, probably the closest to Bilbao, with cave paintings and a great experience.
Thank you. Yes I am interested in the ones with the paintings and understand I would need to make a reservation. I speak Spanish. The question I have is if I would be able to book a tour from the cruise port in Bilbao. I’ve been to the caves in the Dordogne valley in France and I’m aware of the protocols.
Yes, of course, but you probably need to consider the arrival time in port and the timing to get there and back, it really depends on how much time you have available for these visits (it´s normally a full day tour, considering the distances).
Do you know of any tour group I could get in touch with? It looks like the port stop is a full day.
I do not think there´s any organized tours to the caves from Bilbao.
Thanks . Saves me doing something I’d be upset I did!
