Cava tastings near Barcelona

I would like to visit wineries and do cava tastings near Barcelona. I will be using public transportation only. Is it easy enough to visit on your own or do you suggest joining a tour?

I will be in Barcelona in mid-October before a RS tour. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Sant Sadurni d'Anoia is the main centre for Cava production.- Codorniu and Freixenet are both here.
In 2011 we spent a wonderful afternoon touring Codorniu cellars with its fabulous modernist complex of buildings.

Hi June
i will also be in Barcelona in October and have checked out the tour site. The concern I have is that the bus service is not running in August - not sure if that means a summer break or the possibility that it is not busy enough to be a continuous running service -

A lot of people in Barcelona take annual holidays for the entire month of August, which is what you see here.
They will be back in September in time for your visit in October.

We wished!... no, annual holidays is 23 days (roughly four weeks counting weekends) but these days people tend to take a couple of weeks in August and the rest spread over the year (especially Easter and X-mas). But having part of your staff off in August does indeed slow down some projects/services furthermore, as in this case, when half of your customers of that bus line will also be on holiday. Hence the reason some attractions not in the most touristy areas are closed in August. But as said, the bus is working every month except for August :))
