In buying advance tickets I see 3 options: 1)specified date/time, 2)specified date/time w/ "fast pass" meaning no wait in line and 3)ability to come at any date/time. However it isn't clear if one must wait in line for the 3rd option, even though it is the most expensive. Does anyone have experience with these tickets? Thanks.
I had the third option (most expensive) last summer. You can walk in anytime through the VIP entrance - no waiting in line. There is a security check, so I suppose you could be behind a few people for that, but we were able to go right in.
I bought this ticket because I wanted the flexibility to go whenever I needed - I wasnt sure how long other things would take and didn't want to rush through something to arrive in time, or to have to wait around for my timeslot. Worth it for me
Granted we were in Barcelona in 2010, but we did not get advanced tickets and it wasn't a problem. We're going back this summer, but again will not get any advance tickets. We didn't get early tickets for Casa Mila either and again, no problem. They are both outstanding and I know you will love them. Both rooftops are amazing, but Mila's is much larger.
Linda, I'll be interested in your report after you return from this year's trip. I have a strong suspicion that tourist traffic to Barcelona has increased greatly since you were last there.
I was in Barcelona for the first ten day of August 2016, and there were lines at many locations that I would not have wanted to stand in. MNAC (the big art museum), the Miro museum, Sant Pau, and several other less popular museums were fine. The Picasso was unbelievably packed, and there were substantial lines for La Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell (not as bad), Casa Batllo (also as packed as the Picasso once you got inside) and Casa Mila. There was also a modest line at Palau Guell when I first walked past it, but it didn't look like there was going to be a significant delay there.
I don't like being tied down to a specific entry time except for my first site of the day, but the alternative was worse. I loved Barcelona but was very glad I had lots of time there so I could visit a bunch of out-of-the-way sights in addition to the ones where you need to endure a mob scene.
RULE OF THUMB: if there's online pre-booking available... pre-book! --there's a very good reason for it to be! :)))
We were there in April and we pre-booked all of our sites and we were very glad we did.
