How best to get from the United States to Cartagena Spain?

From WHERE in the US and WHEN? It makes a great difference as to availability of airlines that fly or connect and if any flights might be seasonal in nature.

Coming from Oregon, so pretty much anywhere in the US. And in the latter part of April. We had originally thought we would fly to Madrid but there are no direct flights that I could find from Madrid down that way. Any advice on best way to get there would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I took a look at Rome2Rio.com (which I've never used for transatlantic transportation), and it suggested flying into Murcia, Alicante or Valencia. It proposed connections in either London or Amsterdam and projects a travel time of nearly a full day.

I urge you to arrive at least a full day early for your cruise(?) so you won't be totally exhausted.

While there may be some bargain fares on budget airlines from European gateways into Murcia, Alicante or Valencia, if you don't book the entire trip on a single ticket, you will be left hanging out to dry if your transatlantic flight arrives late at the transfer point and you miss your connection. That will be even more financially painful if it happens on the way back home and you miss the transatlantic leg.

Thank you for your reply. We are flying into Alicante from Amsterdam. Now I need advice on a car service from airport to hotel in Alicante and then back to airport to pick up my husband and then down to the port in Cartagena. Quote from hotel is more than double than what I have seen online. But not sure of reliability of service I found. Has anyone ever heard of Epic Transfers? Also need reliable service from Barcelona airport to hotel. Thank you for any recommendations.

Can't help with the Alicante area, but just so you know, there's very frequent bus service from the Barcelona airport into the city and vice versa. The drop off point is Placa Catalunya, so if you happen to be staying near there, it would be extremely efficient.

The airport website gives information on taxi fares.

If someone doesn't respond with information about private transfers in Barcelona, I suggest reposting the question in a new thread with a suitable title to attract the attention of our Barcelona residents.

If you can get to SFO, flights to Madrid and back are very cheap. Looking at those flts for myself and saw some for $717 RT.
