We will be in Andalusia, Spain during the 2017 Carnival (February 23 through February 28). We wouldn’t mind enjoying the festivities for a night or two but would rather not have to deal with the noise and the extra expense involved with staying all six nights in towns that are magnets for carnival goers. I know Cadiz is one of those towns. We were thinking of visiting Seville, a few of the White hill towns, and Tarifa. We want to remain flexible and don’t want to book too far ahead. Would we run into difficult or expensive bookings or noise problems in those places or should we look to other locations? If so, do you have any suggestions about where to stay that would be less affected by the Carnival festivities?

I think Cadiz is the only place that pays much attention to carnival. I stayed in Jerez and day-tripped to Cadiz for the Sunday of Carnival about 4 years ago. The trains were full of local teens and 20s in costumes and good humor from Jerez to Cadiz and pretty crowded. There was a lot of drinking in Cadiz, but I left about 8.30, before things got rowdy. It was fun to see the costumes and the party atmosphere. I had lots of time to see the main tourist sights as well. Jerez is the closest town and it was most definitely low season there. They put on lots of extra trains, they may even have run all night, but I don't know if they went farther than Jerez (like to Sevilla).
Thanks, that is very helpful!
