My husband and I (late 50s) are considering a trip to Seville for 3 or 4 nights and Cadiz for 3 or 4 nights. We are trying to catch some of (street) Carnaval in Cadiz. I think we would enjoy the wild festivities for just one night (read: "old"), but also want to sight see there, maybe a day trip to Morocco. Will the Carnaval festivities greatly hamper our ability to get around in the daytime? Looking for guidance on where to stay considering we only will dip a toe into Carnaval. We are flexible on dates still and could go at the tail end if the main event is super chaotic. Thanks!
If you go to Cadiz the last weekend, that's when the floats with the choirs go through the streets - a unique experience and worth the visit alone - look on You Tube.
The festivities start quite early in the day, so forget normal sightseeing - the crowds are huge.
We have stayed in the Parador and the Hotel Boutique Convento - both great, the latter is opposite the train station.
Essential to book accommodation very early.
To go to Tangier, you would have to travel from Cadiz to Tarifa; it's very far for a day trip from Cadiz, so a very long day. Much easier if you do not have to use public transport to get to and from Tarifa. There are tours that do this, in about 14 hours, but not sure how much time you'd get to spend in Tangier.
I've also stayed at the Parador and liked it very much.
Yeah, for Morocco, you would need to get to Tarifa, an hour and a half by bus from Cadiz, but dependent on schedule as to what time you would get there. The ferries leave at 8 or 9, with you needing to be there ahead of time. So you really need to be in Tarifa the night before, then likely stay the night there when you get back from Tangier
True. IF I really wanted to do this as a day trip, I would get a taxi from Cadiz to the Tarifa ferry and return....I'm taking a wild guess here based on other long rides I've taken from Cadiz but I'm guessing 120 euro each way.
This is interesting to me because I'm not far from Tarifa every year but still have not convinced myself that a day trip to Tangier is a good way to spend my time. It means getting up awfully early for one thing! IF I do go this winter, I will report back. I think I began a thread about this last year.....
