That's quite the long and roundabout drive. Would not to make more sense to just take the AVE high speed train? I believe it's just one change at Madrid Atocha

The train would be faster; there are quite a few departures that take less than 6 hours. ViaMichelin.com estimates a driving time of 6 hr. 45 min. for the fastest route, and that doesn't includes stops, navigational errors (one hopes there would be none of those with a professional driver), traffic tie-ups, time at the rental-car counters (not with a car service, I assume) or the meal break you would certainly need. (You can pack a lunch and eat while you relax on the train.)
