cannot find trains from Madrid to Pontevedra in mid-May, anyone know why?

Thanks to the helpful people here, I found out (by searching) that there are no trains from Seville to Granada at the time we will be there.

I also cannot find trains from Madrid to Pontevedra (or Santiago de Compostela, as an alternative) anytime after May 6. Does anyone know if that might also be due to a construction problem, or if perhaps it's just that Renfe doesn't have those trains available online yet?

Or if anyone has a better suggestion of how to get from the Madrid area to the Pontevedra area of Galicia, I would be eager to hear your suggestions. We could drive, and actually have a place we could stay near Salamanca to break up the trip into two days, if that seems reasonable. I'd prefer the train though, if it's feasible.

Thank you!

I have not seen news of train cancellations in that area. Instead of doing their schedule changes on June 14 with most of Europe, Spain could be making some changes in May and just not yet published schedules.

I can't tell you why, but I will tell you that 3 years ago when we wanted to take the train from Santiago de Compostela to Segovia, the routes weren't available at the normal 62 days in advance. I don't recall when they were finally posted, but it was much closer to the date. I was hoping to snag some of the lower priced fares, but none were posted, so we ended up buying our tickets the day before we left at full price. The upside of that was that we changed our plans so that we could watch the EURO cup finals and not be on the train.

From my somewhat limited experience with RENFE, it seems that often the less traveled routes are not posted as early. That is my observation, not anything formal.

I will tell you that bus travel in Spain is quite nice. There are lots of routes, the prices are good, buses are comfortable and clean.

Good luck planning your trip and enjoy!

One other thing...regarding Seville to Granada. I did hear from someone in Granada that it may be possible to buy a train ticket from Granada to Seville that uses a bus for the portion of the trip closest to Granada. I don't know if that will work the way you want to go, but it might be worth looking into.

It could be it is too early. Train reservations only show up 60 days in advance on Renfe.
