Planning to get away from the cold and visit warm locations in Europe, among them the Canary Islands. I've read mixed reviews about the areas to go to. We 've been told going to the Southwest of the Island is best, weather wise. Any feedback is welcome.
Thank you!
I have been twice, one of those time in February. It is a temperate climate,
weather is usually around 21-22 degree celsius.
The southwest area is very nice, we stayed in Adeje and liked that area very much. A rental car is preferable.
We were there for a week or 10 days in January 2019. The first couple of days we stayed in a resort in the Playa de las Americas area. Can't say as I recommend that area. We moved on to an AirBnB (with our own pool, which was not heated, so it was really only good for soaking our feet) very near Loro Parque. This was much more to our liking. The Punta Brava neighborhood was very handy. I agree that a car is a good idea.
In the south, Playa de las Americas is very much a cheap tourist area.
Although the weather is not so hot and sunny, the north - Puerto de la Cruz and Santa Cruz are much nicer.
We stayed a week at Hotel Botanico - https://www.hotelbotanico.com/en/ - wonderful.
I am also planning a trip to the Canary on February (mostly to escape the cold). I have already been during December (a couple of years ago), we did Tenerife and Gran Canaria. For February, I found good information here https://www.ferryhopper.com/en/blog/featured/hottest-canary-island-february , weather-wise. I hope that helps
Yes the south west is really nice. Prevailing wind is normally from the south west, this rises over Teide (the volcano), forms clouds on the way up and then drops rain on the opposite side of the island. Can be windy around the airport and Los Christianos. That makes the south west the best area for weather on the island, although frankly none of it is bad.
Playa de Las Americas is a huge tourist resort but around Adeje and up to Los Gigantes is lovely.
