Can I change my AVANT tickets from Madrid to Segovia and Madrid to Toledo without penalties?

Hi
I want to purchase tickets to Toledo and Segovia ahead of time, to ensure a certain return time.
I will be traveling in November 24 or 25.
The ticket on RENFE does not indicate if i can change it or not.
Tickets are on the AVANT train.
I am buying round trip tickets for both Toledo and Segovia.
So are these changeable?
Thanks

It depends on what type of ticket you buy on what type of train. This Renfe web page summarizes the features of the various types of tickets: Renfe ticket features. "Choose Estandar" is "Elige Estandar". Things sometimes get translated that shouldn't be.

If you search the schedule on Renfe.com for a round-trip and click on a price for the desired outbound train, you'll see a pop-up with the rules for that fare on that train. I'm not getting the same information for a one-way ticket. I'm guessing that's a web site bug, but I'm not sure.

Only the summary chart linked above specifies that you must pay the fare difference if you change your ticket (pretty standard when you change any type of ticket, for obvious reasons) and that only the first change is fee-free on Elige tickets.

The other thing to be aware of is that trains between Madrid and Toledo fairly often do sell out. Rick warns about that--especially for the trains heading back to Madrid late in the day.

The ticket fare types Acraven mentions above are not offered on the trains you’re looking at. There are two fare categories, one way and round trip (ida y vuelta). The round trip allows for free changes but charge 40% cancelation penalty. The one way tickets allow free changes in advance, 15% on the same day, and only 15% cancelation.

I wonder whether multiple free changes (plural) are allowed on AVANT tickets, given there's a one-free-change limit on AVE Elige tickets.

I think the Renfe website has improved a bit in recent years, but it's strange that you see the fare conditions for round-trip AVANT tickets when you click on the fare but not for one-way tickets. It seems they haven't quite finished their work on the UI.
