Camp nou/Montserrat on same day

Hi! In Barcelona now and headed to camp nou at 9:30. My question is, we are supposed to go to Montserrat tomorrow and now there is a very high chance of rain. Can anyone tell me how to get to Montserrat from camp nou and if I'm totally crazy for thinking of doing both today? I'm just afraid of it rains tomorrow, we might miss out and it's our last day here.

I have not been to either Camp Nou or Montserrat, but I think someone at Camp Nou should be able to point you in the right direction.

If not: I'm 95% certain that a trip to Montserrat begins at the train station beneath Pl. Espanya. I believe there are vending machines there selling tickets. Last August there was also an employee helping tourists. I think tickets sold there are for round-trip transportation and possibly also the entry fee. Understand what you have bought so that you don't double-purchase anything.

You'll need to make a decision about whether you want to make the final leg of the trip via a little train (rack or cog wheel?) or on some sort of aerial lift. You must use the same mode of transportation in both directions.

Last year Enric posted a detailed explanation about visiting Montserrst that would probably be very helpful to you. It should turn up if you Google ricksteves enric montserrat. Sorry that I don't know how to copy and paste links on the tablet I'm using.

I'm not sure but if you happen to pop back, can you let me know how Camp Nou is? We are going on Monday, our first day in Barcelona...also supposed to rain.

Thanks everyone! Enric once again came to the rescue! We went to camp nou at 9:30 and finished about 11:15, it was an excellent visit! After camp nou, we walked about 20-30 min to placa espanya and headed to montserrat. I don't particularly like heights but I am really glad that we chose the cable car. It was fast and we felt very safe.

Tomorrow is supposed to rain so we tweaked our itinerary and now have a free day tomorrow to do what we would like, and sleep in! Hoping to find a good restaurant tomorrow. I hate to say this but the food has just been mediocre so far. Had a good paella in Garcia last night but everything else has just been ok, not fabulous. We have a little cafe across from our apartment and have enjoyed having croissants and coffees every morning with the locals.

I would really love to get my haircut tomorrow as this is something that I do on all of my over seas trips. I haven't had any luck with finding any that are open. Does the entire city close down on Sunday? Not sure what to expect when we head out.

The first day we explored barri gottic and Barcelonetta but just scratched the surface due to our jet lag. We have been to sagrada familia which was over the top fantastic! We went to hospital San pau and that tour wasn't great. We did the 11:00 English tour and our tour guide had such a thick accent that he might has well have been speaking a different language. My teens were bored and the rest of the group had to keep asking him to repeat himself. Could have skipped that one. We explored park guell which was amazing with breathtaking views and went into the museum house which imo was well worth the couple euro. From there, we walked until we reached the Garcia neighborhood and found a good little place for dinner. Sorry, don't remember the name. Today we went to camp nou and montserrat which were fantastic! Long day with lots of travel time though but worth it.

Hoping to see a bit more of the city tomorrow. Would like to explore barri gottic some more, possibly montjuic and ??. I guess everything will be dependent on the weather. Any recommendations other than art museums for a rainy day?

Thanks,
Kristalynn

Barcelona has great restaurants, however you must avoid those showing the pictures of the different dishes by the front door. Those are usually tourist traps and all European cities have them. I would suggest using the travel forum for recommendations, TripAdvisor and el tenedor español. Obviously everyone has different tastes and preferences.

Ah yes, the ones with pics that look anything but appetizing. We definitely don't stop there. It's been ok, just not fantastic. We have enjoyed the bakeries, gelato, and good inexpensive wine! Have been going to recommendations from different sites. Gonna research for tomorrow's meals a bit more. Bablionia and piazonnia (sp) close to sagrada familia were 2 that we tried. Neither of those stood out. We have 2 teens with us so trying to find good food but somewhat casual. I'm sure there are some wonderful fine dining restaurants here.

I liked Xaloc and Paco Merlago when we were there in 2013.

Was Camp Nou crowded? I still have to buy the tickets.

We are in Barcelona right now, too. The food is GREAT but you have to stay off the beaten path:

Botega la Tinaja - Esparteria 9 I El Born -- the coolest space - you go through a small door and the food was GREAT as was the mostly Catalan wine list.

Enefre Vinos y Viandes - in Rick Steves book - near Palace of Catalan Music - really tiny place with very personal service. Food was creative and delicious!

Can Majo (Almirall Aixada 23) - good paella and seafood on the beach

Gelaaati di Marco (Llibreteria 7) - went this evening and it was divine!

@np it was crowded but not crazy. Go ahead and buy your tics in advance if you know you are going. We did and we walked right in.

@janet thank you for suggestions!! I will check out for tomorrow:))

Do you need to print them or can they be shown on a device?
