I am planning to do the Camino Del Compostela. Any and all suggestions are welcome. I am interested in a self guided tour. Thanks!
Martin Sheen walks the Camino in this movie, The Way, currently available (free) on Amazon Prime.
Here's a discussion thread on another board by someone preparing for the trip.
Good luck!
Thank you!
Since Rick's Spain book only touches on this route, it mentions these further resources:
As walking the Camino is in vogue, there’s no shortage of good Camino guidebooks and maps. Try Walking the Camino de Santiago by Bethan Davies and Ben Cole, A Pilgrim’s Guide to the Camino de Santiago by John Brierly, or Buen Camino by Jim and Eleanor Clem. For a more philosophical take, check out Following the Milky Way by Elyn Aviva and On Pilgrimage by Jennifer Lash. The Spanish national tourism office has posted good online resources at http://bit.ly/d1mjax.
Great resources, thanks Laura!
Maggie, our daughter is walking the Camino as we type, and I can confirm one of Laura's suggested books, the one by John Brierly is very well done, sort of a step by step Rick Steve's kind of detail; see link below. Also, we watched a very good documentary film just the other night which follows six walkers and relates their experiences. People walk for lots of reasons, it's not always a pilgrimage, sounds like it's just a great walk.
We hear from our walker just about daily via text and photos she is posting, she's having an experience of a lifetime, and she knows it. And self guided works fine, she is quite comfortable (well, her feet are shot) and has easily made it from place to place, with welcoming folks all around. She has a particular friend who sits her down every night and works on her feet-a rubdown, fresh bandages, etc. A great time.

There is a forum dedicated to the Camino de Santiago.
