We will be finishing the Camino at the end May. We are thinking on adding on a day to go to the coast. Saw a couple a day tours. Is it worth it and is a tour the best way to go?
I have done the all day bus tour from Santiago twice and found it good value for the money. Last time was in 2018, so it may have changed a bit, but we saw Muxia, Finesterra, the light house, beaches, the 0km marketer, had lunch in a fishing village, saw the huge waterfall that generates electricity and learned lots about this part of Galicia. In 2018, it was 49€.
For me it was easiest to do the tour, due to the amount of sites visited.
While in Santiago, you might want to do the roof tour of the Cathedral.
I always enjoy spending a couple of days in Santiago, sort of decompressing after my Camino walks.
If nothing else, an extra day would be worth it just to relax. Not sure where the tour goes, but the coast is beautiful. While I haven’t spent much time along that section of coast, a few years ago we drove over to Santuario da Virxe da Barca in Muxia where some pilgrims end their Camino.
Yes, you absolutely should spend an extra day after your Camino to visit Finisterre and Muxia. You may want your picture at the 00.00 km marker at lighthouse at Finisterre.
If you take a tour, they also visit a waterfall and an additional site. There is a hour stop to get lunch in Finisterre
I took this one:
Get your guide is a third party consolidator. But the tour was excellent and the price was reasonable.
If you don't take a tour, then only other way is the public bus. A tour is the way to go.
Get your Guide lists the name of the tour company. Book direct with them so they don't have to pay the 25% commission to GYG.
