Hi! I’m thinking about doing a week of the Camino before a tour starting in Barcelona, so about 60 miles in a week.
I’m in my 60s and moderately fit (and will be training the next 4 months!)
Any feedback on how much down time to schedule before the tour?
Thanks!
What time of year and which section of the Camino. That could influence your recovery time, and how long it will take you to get to Barcelona.
Thanks! Late October and probably the last 100km on the primitivo.
It should take 4-6 days for that walk depending on how many miles/kilometers you walk each day. Google AI response said one should start in Lugo if walking the last 100km. The Camino Primativo meets up with the Camino Francés at Melide. From there the walk is easy.
Lugo is easy to reach by train from Madrid’s Chamartín station. In Lugo you pick up the credenciales at the cathedral.
In addition to the walking time I’d allow a half day to enjoy Lugo and a couple nights to explore Santiago. Then you need to get to Barcelona.

We walked the last 100 for 6 days and started in Sarria. Afterwards we visited Portugal for 2 weeks. We stayed in Santiago for 2 nights after our walk. We really should have stayed another night or two just to relax and rest up.
We were 4 adults and one in our group had a few bad blisters which would have benefited from the extra 2 nights.
This is all really helpful, thank you all!
Do plan on spending some time in Santiago. Have been there 6 times, but always plan on spending 2 days there. Haven't walked the Primitivo, so can't help you there, but have walked the Camino Frances 4 times and various Portuguese Camino routes twice. Let me know if you want some more info.
