Hello travelers, we will be in Cadiz in mid-May on a weekend. Our tapas crawl research is showing that most tapas bars close for siesta. Is it possible that websites are showing off-season (April) hours and that there will be more availability between 4 - 8PM in May? Thanks
There are no hard and fast rules but, in Cadiz, you will never be stuck for a drink and tapas.
There is no difference between months as far as bars go; Cadiz is a working city not dependent on tourism.
There is really no such thing as a tapas bar. There are bars that serve tapas, but they are called bars.
Best time is before dinner, from around 7pm onwards.
I'd recommend the bar at EL FARO restaurant. The bar has its own entrance.
I would say that bars (and Spain in general) do not close for siesta; we close for lunch. Lunch is the main meal of the day, and tapas are always had before lunch or before dinner (which is around 0930pm or 10pm), much less important than lunch. Siesta is always after our long lunch, and just those that are retired or have time for it can do it (around half hour after lunch). 4pm is a very strange time for us for tapas, so expect very few people at bars (as ekscrunchy has said, it´s normal bars, not "tapas bars") at that time.
