Cadaques from Barcelona

Can a visit to Cadaques from Barcelona be done in one day, leaving early in the morning from Barcelona and returning late at night? Or, should one spend a night there? Also, without a car, should one travel first by bus or train to Figueres and then by bus to Cadaques? How many hours total does it take to arrive there and can one get tickets in Barcelona?

I visited there a few years ago with a group. We traveled by bus, but left from a different area. So, I may not be all that much help, but I think you could take a train to Figueres (location of the museum, etc.) and then take a bus on to Cadaques. It would be a very long day from Barcelona. You may be able to get tickets on line. I recall they allowed only a limited number of people in at a time. The Dali House is actually in Portlligat . Check the web site for more information. Well worth the effort to visit.

Before you head all the way to Cadaques, know that tickets MUST be reserved in advance to visit the Dali house. It's in Portlligat, as mentioned above, which is a fair hike from Cadaques. There are a few rooms in tiny Portlligat.

Your best bet would likely be a bus or small group tour from Barcelona - you would be avoiding a lot of hassles.

Figueres is definitely worth the day trip on your own, though. The Museu-Teatro Dali is one of my favorite museums in the world!

You can not visit Cadaques within one day by bus/train. You must stay in Cadaques overnight. Ride the train from Barcelona to Figueres then bus to Cadaques. I travelled in low season (early Spring) when the bus had one daily trip only Figueres to Cadaques & back. Might be more bus sked in summer or high season.Train to Figueres is regular. I think it took less than 2 hrs. from Figueres to Cadaques. I seem to recall a once daily bus from Barcelona direct to Cadaques but not certain.
