I day tripped to Cadaques from Girona, but it can be done from Barcelona. You'd take the train to Figueres and switch to the bus there. The bus ride over to Cadaques is very scenic (i.e., curvy). You'll be walking downhill from the bus station in Cadaques to the port.
The slightly complicated part of the trip is the train-station situation in Figueres. The fast trains from Barcelona go to the Figueres Vilafant Station. The slower trains go to the Figueres station. The buses to Cadaques depart from very near (maybe right in front of) the Figueres Station. The two train stations are over a mile apart. There's a city bus linking them, but on a recent trip I took just to Figueres, my fast train was late, and the bus had already departed by the time we arrived. So you have to consider whether you'd be willing to do the walk or would want to summon a taxi if one isn't waiting at the station. If you're not fond of walking for close to half an hour, I'd suggest Googling for a taxi telephone number or two and hoping you won't need it.
The fast trains to the less-convenient Figueres Vilafant station will be more expensive that the slower trains to Figueres station, especially if you don't want to buy your ticket ahead of time. You can check the schedules and fares for the fast trains on the Renfe website.
Schedules for the slower trains are here: https://rodalies.gencat.cat/en/horaris/. The departure point seems to be Barcelona-Sants. I can't figure out where to see the fare for the slow train.
If you're interested in seeing the Dali house in Port Lligat, outside Cadaques, you'll need to buy a ticket in advance. I'm not sure how early you need to do that, but capacity is limited and I believe tickets regularly sell out.
Chris,
Cadaques is easy to reach on the Sarfa Moventis bus line from the Barcelona Nord station. Direct buses depart a few times per day each way and take about two hours. Unfortunately, it doesn’t leave much time to enjoy this nice seaside town.
I took the bus referenced above. My source says that there is one a day leaving at 6:45 am. And then one back at 20:45 pm.
Does anyone else have any information or suggestions on this subject? It looks as if it would cost about $100 CAD to take the hi-speed train from Barcelona to Figueres and back, and then a taxi to Cadaques, and back, plus the cost of entry. The bus option mentioned by the last writer would make for a very long day.
Thanks,
Chris
Finding ourselves in a similar predicament in the process of planning we booked and stayed right next door to the Dali House at the Hotel Port Lligat; it is right off the beach and landscape you see in Dali's paintings (if you are familiar with his work); Cadaques was a nice surprise and worth a stay overnight (actually I wish we had stayed more than one night) as a break from all the tourists in Barcelona. We arrived around 15:00 from Figueres and our tour of the house was at 16:00; we got up early and took the 6:45 to Barcelona. But this method is not for everyone as we walked to the bus station at that hour.
Not trying to hijack Chris's post. I'm looking at the same thing. We will be in Barcelona in SEP this year. I too will be taking the train from Barcelona to Figueres. The train trip looks pretty straight forward. Looking for detail for the bus trip from Figueres to Cadaques. Looking at the Dali web page, 'How to get There', it appears that the links for Bus are for departures other than Figueres.
Does anyone have any transportation detail from the museum in Figueres to Dali's house in Cadaques?
Thanks
This is the bus company Figueres to Barcelona

The bus station is within walking distance of the Dali Museum in Figueres:

Thanks, trying to see how to get from Figueres to Cadaques for Dali's home. Wondering if it is worth to see the Museum in Figueres and Dali's home next to Port Lligat. Maybe, I should just see Figueres and Dali's Museum. Skipping Dali's home all together. Might be to much for a day trip. My plan was to take the high speed train from Barcelona. Less travel time then taking the regional train. Looking to see if there is if there is a service from Figueres to Dali's home that would provide some guarantee for purchasing tickets ahead time for Dali's home. I looked at 'Get your Guide'. All they offered was a bus trip from Barcelona to Figeueres for the Museum and back to Barcelona. I can do this on my own using the train in less amount of time and money, thus providing more time in Figueres for sightseeing. I also looked at renting a car. Figueres Avis was quoting north of 350 euro's for the day. A little too much for a drive to Dali's home.
Thanks
I wouldn't do Cadaques as a day trip.
I am unaware of day trip tours to Dali's house ; you just have to buy your ticket reserve the time yourself online. https://www.salvador-dali.org/en/museums/house-salvador-dali-in-portlligat/info-practica/horaris-i-preus/ to guarantee your entry. There is an employee at the house that leads the tour of the ten people.
I found a link for Cadaqués Routes (https://www.rutescadaques.com) from Rick Steves Travel Book, 'Barcelona' PG 260. They have Dali and area tours. I sent them an email. Waiting for a response. When I hear back I'll share their response. Yes I know I can get a ticket. Before I purchase a ticket ahead of time would like some confidence that I'll be able to get there at some estimated time.
In Rick Steves book, he mentions that you have to be there 30 minutes before your scheduled entry time to pick-up the ticket or they will resell it.
Hoping to see if I can pre-arrange a transportation service instead of relying on a cab. If i can arrange a tour out of Figueres that would be great. I could see the Museum in Figueres. Then proceed over to Cadaques to see Dali's home. Maybe have lunch in Cadaques before returning back to Figueres for the train.
I doubt that there are public tours (as opposed to private tours) originating in Figueres. It's not a town very many foreign tourists seem to stay in. You might find a combo tour from Barcelona that hits the Theatre-Museum in Figueres and the house in Port Lligat. The problem is that you'd be at the mercy of the tour company's schedule.
The ticket is 18 euros ; that ain't nothin to lose if you can't get there.
