Hi. My husband and I decided two days ago to take a trip to Spain in late November. Our US passports were already sent out for renewal. I don't think they'll get here for up to another month. I don't suppose there's any way I can buy a ticket to the Alhabra now, since they want a passport number? (I might have a photocopy, but I believe the number will change by the time of the trip?)
My passport number has always changed with each renewal, but they have slways returned the old passport to me, so I would assume you could show up at the Alhambra with both old and new passports (though I don't why they'd need the new one), if you csn find those photocopies to use for ordering the Alhsmbra tickets.
If not, you may have the new passports sooner thsn expected, but it's true that Alhsmbra tickets sell our very eatly. If you run into a problem there, check for availability of Dobla de Oro tickets, which cost more but cover other sights I found worthwhile. Or see whether Nasrid Palace tickets are available for your dates via the Granada Card (more coverage, more expensive, but less so than paying for a guided tour).
This is tricky situation you are in. They asked for it when you buy online tickets but there is no checking of id when it is your time to enter. So I would use the old number.
We just renewed our passports. The old comes back with a couple punches thru it. One punch was thru the passport number. That said, I think I'd still purchase the tickets and would bring both passports. Really, I believe the purpose of requiring the number is prevent a resaler from purchasing up a bunch of tickets. I would think a reasonable person (if necessary you may need to talk to a manager of the ticket office) would wave you in. Further, I don't recall our passports even being checked.
EDITED TO ADD--Our passports came in about three weeks. A couple years ago, my daughters got their passports (new, not renewal because theirs had expired) in about three weeks. Anecdotally, among people I've discussed this with, the passports are faster than the government est.
Thanks so much! We'll book with the old numbers and bring both passports with us.
