I am going to be in Spain for two weeks and have read that the best way to have international calling ability is to buy a "go phone" when I arrive. Are there any phone stores in the airport? I really don't want to have to find one in Madrid, not knowing my way around yet.
The Crystal Media stores look like a safe bet, but all are geared toward the departure crowd and only one location mentions up-front that it's in the "public zone" of Terminal 4.
This is what I am buying before I go to Spain: its cheap, you can get either a internat. sim card for your existing phone, or a cheaper phone that already has a sim card in it, and you buy some pre-paid time.
no contract, works in US also, as well as many European countries, no roaming charges, easy to use. Check out their web site.
Check with your local provider since most major carriers have plans you can get just for time time you are traveling. They are reasonably priced and you should be able to get voice or voice/data. May be cheaper than buying a throw-away phone.
Annieg,
Another option would be to buy a SIM card for your existing phone, as long as it's an unlocked phone. If your phone is not unlocked, or you're not sure if it is, you can contact your phone company and inquire.
We purchased a SIM card at the Atocha Train station at the, 'TELECOR' shop (#16 on the diagram).
Enjoy Spain!
