I am landing in Malaga at 4 p.m. on Thursday. I would like to take a bus directly fro Malaga to Nerja. However I have not been able to find a bus which leaves late in the afternoon. I have already booked a hotel in Nerja for that night. Do you think I can find a bus from the Malaga bus station or would it be better to go via Uber or taxi?

Here's the ALSA schedule for next Thursday. There are lots of buses from the Malaga bus station to Nerja.

The buses go to Nerja almost every hours. Don't worry, you'll find a bus. The bus station is right across from the train station. You can take the local train from the Airport to town, walk through the mall and across the street to the bus station where you can buy your bus ticket. Those don't need to be purchased in advance. In all likelihood, you won't get there until 5:00 PM. There should be a 6:00 bus.
Don't take Uber or a taxi, it will cost you a fortune!!! The bus is cheap, Alsa, and comfortable. It is only a one hour ride.
While in Spain, there is a great app for shared car rides called blablacar.com I have gotten rides on that a few times. go to their website and create an account. You might be able to plan/book a ride in advance.
