The train options seem to be limited for this destination (traveling on Sept. 20th), does anyone have experience taking the bus? It's a bit longer but has more time options. Thank you,

Yes this was an easy ride for us on the Alsa bus.
I'd take the 9 am direct on September 20 :
Granada Station
Malaga
Depart 09:00
01:40 h
Arrive : 10:40
DirectGranada Station-Malaga 09:00

Not that route, but I used an ALSA bus from Nerja to Malaga a few years ago, and it was easy. No complaints.

We did that exact route at the beginning of May. It was easy, the bus was comfortable, no complaints.
