We’re visiting friends in Spain. Our host asked if we can bring him a Davy Crockett raccoon hat. Raccoon hats I’ve found here in the U.S. can be made of fur from either coyote, raccoon, rabbit or etc. Can you bring in clothing or hats made with animal fur not from endangered animals.
I believe YES, but I am not 100% sure. I remember bringing back a fur hat from Russia some decades ago with no problem whatsoever. If the animal is not on the endangered species list, it shouldn't be a problem.
I've tried to look it up for you on the Spanish government and the European Union websites -since most of the legislation is nowadays erected at the EU Parliament level anyway- but I couldn't locate the specific piece of legislation, sorry.
To get a better warm furry feeling you might google Fur Shops in Madrid and see if any pop up. If they do, and if they sell the real thing, I would suppose that you are okay. You wont go to jail if there is an issue. You just loose your cap. I wear my coonskin cap here every winter ... no problem in this city.
