Hi,
i was wondering about the tap water in Spain as well as the bottled water choices, if any?
One of the hotels I was looking at, said they give free bottled water upon check in and I was wondering what type it was.
Is it mineral water?
Thanks,
Laurie
Spanish tap water is excellent, in Madrid was probably some of the best I've ever had. Just filling up in the rooms will save money and offers very little quality reduction.
The tap water is great...but, try one of the dark blue bottles of Solan water as well....the bottle is a copy of their first bottle from the early 1800s I think.
If you want to know exactly which bottled water your hotel provides, the best place to go to find which one it might be would be to ask the hotel. Only they will know which brand.
Hi, it depends on where you are in Spain in regards to the quality of tap water. Madrid and Granada tend to have really good tap water but you will find further south the quality isnt as good. this is because of droughts and the need to turn to seawater desalination to meet water needs. you might find that it has a different taste then what you are use to!
Also, two types of water....gass -- with carbonation, and still, flat no carbonation...both are good, the gass water is usually more expensive. If you are near a supermarket or department store with a grocery section, you can purchase water there at a better price.
Also remember, when you're in a restaurant and want tap water, ask for agua del grifo, which is free. Otherwise you'll be served bottled water, which isn't free.
Thanks all.
We will probably look for a supermarket and purchase bottled water, not mineral water.
We have to carry it while touring, somehow. I also prefer hot tea, so I'll have tea bags with me.

Bottled water = mineral water; it is the same thing.
Not true, not all bottled water is mineral water. Just like here, it is basically purified water or spring water. The hotel where I stay in Madrid gives me two bottles of water every morning. If I want more, there are little shops all over where I can pick up more. Lots of brands available. You can even find Dasani anywhere they sell Coke products (which is pretty much anywhere).
