Booking Alhambra Tickets

Hi,

My husband and I would be in Granada for 4 days 15th Dec-18th Dec. We have not yet booked the tickets of Alhambra. We don't wish to take a guided tour. Need few suggestions
1) Is weekend a good idea for ALhambra visit?
2) Which is the official website for the ticket purchase. I found this : https://tickets.alhambra-patronato.es/en/tickets-alhambra-general/
If not the above link, is ticketmaster a good idea? Could someone share the exact link of the ticket to buy from the official website?
3) I have purchased Rick Steves guide book(not delivered yet). Does that include Alhambra Walking tour or anything of that sort?
4) Also, one major confusion, which tickets to buy? There is general day ticket which I think covers the Nasrid Palaces, Gardens, ALcazaba and Generalife and then there is something called Dobla de Oro, what is that. Which one to opt?

Thanks,
Mansi Bhalani

I believe tickets go on sale about 90 days in advance, so you are just a couple weeks away from being able to buy tickets for mid-December. That is the website I used to buy tickets. I bought General tickets and attended on a Saturday last month. We went fairly early (arrived about 10:00 am) and it was not too crowded, but I could tell it was more crowded as it got later in the day. I'm not sure if a weekday would be very different since it is such a popular site. You should definitely purchase tickets in advance. There was a couple staying at our Airbnb who tried to buy tickets day-of and they could not get in.

Here is a link that describes what the Dobla deOro ticket includes, everything the General ticket includes plus other sites around town:
https://tickets.alhambra-patronato.es/en/tickets-dobla-de-oro-general/

If those other places sound interesting to you and you have extra time in Granada, might not be a bad idea to buy that one.

Enjoy!

As of October 1, there is a new on line booking system. Ticketmaster no longer is the provider. It is early days, so things are still be generated. There are some pluses, as now, you won't have to go somewhere to get a voucher turned into a ticket. You can print the ticket directly. There is also hopes that the credit card issues and denials that happened via Ticketmaster are resolved. The new company does the sales for the Prado in Madrid. I believe the order site is currently just Spanish right now.
Areas of the Alhambra are free but they still try to control numbers, so weekend or not, should have little impact. The website explains the specifics for each ticket. I have purchased a dobla de Oro as I am there several days and want the ease to see the other sites. Some of these are actually free on Sundays, so there isn't always a benefit to that ticket. I also have a night ticket for a Saturday night visit to Nazrid Palace.

You can try to buy on site the day of, but you will need to start to queue prior to gate opening. They hold back a lot of tickets per day, but there is a risk you will not get one, or the Nazrid Palace times available don't suit you.
Yes, Rick has a walking tour and also the Patronato site has a map with details, as some areas are sort of 'one way' and you can only enter some areas once.
I suggest waiting a few days or so to see whether December has made it up yet. In the meantime, you can certainly check out the other areas of the website for information.

Thanks. My concern is tickets are available for January but December looks full on Alhambra-patronato website. Does that mean tickets are actually sold out ? Or should I wait till mid Oct and see if I get the tickets?

I looked at the link you gave. It looks so much easier than before - but I believe it just hasn't been populated for December yet. Early days, I believe. Yesterday, they only had October 2 - 9 available for booking with everything else red :-)
Watch it every day, if you prefer.

Mansi,
I just checked the official Alhambra website (the same one you found), and there are still tickets available for your dates in December.

I'd suggest booking your tickets as soon as possible for best time selection.

When we visited Granada, we booked the Alhambra General tickets. You can always buy separate tickets if you choose to visit other monuments.

Do not wait till you get there to try to get your Alhambra tickets,. The Alhambra is a UNESCO World Heritage site and it's the highlight of Granada, so it's always busy.

You can also buy your Alhambra tickets by calling the Alhambra directly at
+34 858 953 616.

Enjoy your trip!
