Has anyone used Bla Bla Car in Spain instead of trains? I just discovered the ride share option and was wondering is anyone had any experiences to report. Thanks much!
Short answer: Yes, it's great.
Story about it: We found ourselves in a bind, having forgotten our international drivers licenses, which the car rental company insisted on. So, without a car, on new year's eve in Granada, we needed to find another way to get to Ronda, the same day.
We tried bus and train, and didn't like the options, so we remembered we had heard about Bla Bla Car. Literally 5 minutes later, I had downloaded the app on my phone, and found a guy offering 3 places in his car from Granada to Ronda, leaving at noon, for about €45 total. That was much cheaper than the alternatives, and much faster. The Driver had an excellent 5 star rating and more than 30 rides history. He was a firefighter, spoke excellent English and Spanish, and told us fascinating history facts about the cities and lands as we drove through to our destination. His car was clean, and it was one of the best experiences on our trip.
I've used it a couple of times since, once to ride 5 hours to go to the snow in Andorra.
I highly recommend it.
Not having used the service before (but interested in looking into it) do you typically try to book things in advance (like for this summer) or does it not really work that way, and it is more "wait until few days before" kind of thing so drivers know when they are going and can then post available spots in their cars? Just never used it before but looks worth checking out
