We are going to Spain in September 2021 (COVID permitting). Flying into Bilbao but staying in Logrono initially. I can find a single train each day (2.5 hours ride) but afraid I can't make that train if any flight delays since I first have to take a bus to the train station in town. Has anyone taken a a bus from the BilBao airport to Logrono? Pros and cons?
Hi Kathy,
take the bus. From Rome2rio:
The bus journey time between Logroño and Bilbao is around 1h 50m and covers a distance of around 142 km. The fastest bus normally takes 1h 45m. Services are operated by ALSA and Alava Bus. Typically 47 buses run weekly, although weekend and holiday schedules can vary so check in advance.
Be careful that you get the direct bus and not the ones which go through the villages.
As for going from the airport to the bus station I've never done it but this is the airport bus service page.
I haven't taken a bus along that exact route, but I've taken many buses in Spain, including quite a few in the Basque Country. They were comfortable and air conditioned. Many had Wi-Fi, although that can come and go as you move down the highway. Although you can't walk around on a bus as you can on a train, on a relatively short ride that's not an issue for me, and I love being able to roll my suitcase to the side of the bus and lift it a few inches into the luggage hold rather than wrestling in up the steps onto a train and trying to find a place for it on the luggage rack.
No doubt I´d take the bus. No direct link from the airport (it´s a very small airport that just connects with San Sebastian), so you have to get to Bilbao Intermodal Station (direct bus from airport, 3eur) and then take one of the many buses to Logroño. Fast, clean, efficient. IMO, the best wineries are around Haro and Laguardia (it´s all about wine here), not Logroño, but it´s just my opinion, of course! Haro is in Rioja Alta, Laguardia in Basque Rioja (Rioja Alavesa).
