My husband and I will be visiting Bilbao in late February/early March.
We would appreciate learning about hotels you recommend? We are considering Hotel Tayko and Meliã hotel...
Would you recommend staying in the old town area or the Abando district?
We stayed at the Catalonia and really liked it. We found we were able to walk everywhere from there. It’s close to the football stadium and there was a great atmosphere in the surrounding bars on match day. The stadium tour was great as well.
Bilbao is so walkable there's no one best area to stay, IMO. We had a great stay at The Artist Hotel, right across from the Guggenheim.
We liked the Hotel Carlton; a few steps from a Metro stop and easy walk to the Guggenheim.
We recently stayed at the Hotel Miro close to the Guggenheim Museum. I enjoyed the location as the Guggenheim was the reason we were there. But we also walked down the river to the old Town. It was definitely livelier with possibly more bars and restaurants, but we liked the quieter area.
I liked the Bilder in Old Town. It was splurge hotel- even got the balcony!- but the location was great. Fun area to walk around day or night, with shops and restaurants aplenty, and transportation to airport was right across the street. And it’s a nice walk through town or along the river to the Guggenheim.
We stayed in Hotel Bilbao Plaza, which we found on booking.com. Nice room and great location.
