Bilbao Guggenheim

We plan to visit Spain in September. We will fly from Santiago de Compostela to Bilbao then take a bus to San Sebastián. We’d like to spend a few hours at the Guggenheim while in Bilbao but need someplace to store luggage. Any ideas? Can we get our Guggenheim admission tickets when we get there or should we get them in advance?

I´d recommend a more extensive visit of Bilbao, as it´s a really nice city, but if you just have a few hours (take into account that there are many buses daily to San Sebastian and no booking is normally required), I´d allow a couple maximum for the Guggenheim. You may leave luggage at Bilbao Intermodal bus station. If on a weekday, no need to buy tickets in advance.

Just seconding the above reply - don't sell Bilbao short! I know all the publicity about the Guggenheim makes it sound like that's all there is to see there. But there are also other good museums (specifically the Fine Arts and, if you like sculpture, the Museum of Reproductions), and the Old Town is larger, less touristy, and more interesting than the one in San Sebastian.

Thanks for you responses. Maybe we’ll plan to at least stay overnight in Bilbao!

San Sebastian is getting all the attention lately, and well deserved, but it can be seen in a few hours and it´s more the beautiful setting than finding things to see or to do. Wonderful gastronomy...but that´s true all over the Basque Country. Bilbao has undergone an incredible change in the past 20 years and has turned into a lovely city, with a great old town, beautiful architecture and the main hub for culture and things to do and to see. Also, cheaper than SS! And less rainy!
