Biblao to Girona

At the end of May we will be traveling east (by car) and spending some time along the coast. What route would be the best to travel from Biblao to Gerona.
In addition what towns along the coast are recommended to explore.
Is there a hotel/lodging that might be a good choice in Gerona.

Hello, just so you know, the vast majority of any driving from Bilbao to Girona is going to be inland, you won't be seeing much coast, only a little at the beginning. It quite interesting going from Bilbao to Girona, one does not normally connect between those two cities, especially foreign tourists.

I would start driving from Bilbao to San Sebastian, along the scenic coastal road, stopping in any fishing villages you fancy, I would definitively stop at San Juan de Gaztelugatxe hermitage. From San Sebastian you basically have 2 options:

Option 1- Folllowing the Ebro River: this basically goes through the heart of old region Aragon, from San Sebastian you go down to Pamplona, Olite, Zaragoza (big city); then cross into Catalonia to Lleida, Vic, then finally to Girona.

Option 2- Across the Pyrenees: this goes over the "rooftop of Spain" so to speak, from Pamplona you turn eastwards to the small town of Sos del Rey Católico, then on to Jaca (old Aragonese town), then up to Vielha in the Vall de Aran, continue southeast to La Seu d'Urgell, then the moutain town of Ribes de Freser, and finally down to Girona via Besalu.

There are pros and cons to each option, both will definitely take multiple days, not an easy drive. Option 1 will be the fastest and more straightforward, but much less scenic. The mountain scenery in option 2 will be incredible, but it will probably take you at least a week to hit all the places I mentioned.

To recap: If I have less than a week I would go with option 1, and if I had more than a week then option 2.

We traveled from Hondarribia ,Spain, near San Sebastian, to the Costa Brava on the French side of the Pyrenees, stopped two nights. Visited pretty Collioure on the Mediterranean and then drove down into Spain. It was very pretty as you are very close to the mountains on the French side's highway. We went into a mountain village one night.
You would have a nice drive from BILBAO( note spelling) to San Sebastian. Girona is near the Costa Brava where we stayed.
