Betwixt Ronda and Granada?

We will be driving from Ronda to Granada (early October). It looks like the drive time is a little over two hours (by the most direct route), but that seems to allow time for us to explore a bit along the way. Any interesting places to stop and poke around? Suggestions on where to stop for lunch?

We drove this route in reverse in April 2015 and stopped, at Chani's suggestion, at the Fuente de Piedra natural preserve to see the flamingos. It's not far from Antequerra. We packed a lunch and picnicked in the area. Not sure if the flamingos will be in residence at that time of year, might be worth checking.

I'll look into the flamingo situation, Kathleen.

And thanks, Fast Eddie, I'll look for an opportunity to use soupçon next. Haha.

We will be doing the same drive in early October. I had wondered about stopping in Setenil. It looks really unusual. Does anyone know whether it is worth a stop?

Last November I drove through Olvera and Sentinel de las Bodega before arriving at Ronda. I liked Olvera a lot, a "regular" good size town not spoiled by tourism. No tour buses and only a few tourists in sight. A sharp contrast to Ronda. Aside from a quick peek at the dwellings in the rocks, I did not find Sentinel de las Bodega that interesting.

When reaching a white village, I parked at the first space I found and toured on foot. But in Ronda I had to drive through narrow and winding streets and many roundabouts to reach my hotel.

I will arrive at Ronda (actually staying in Arriate) from Cadiz (via Arcos da la Frontera), so I think we could plot a route through Olvera and Setenil coming from there. But the point of my original post is, after a couple nights in Arriate we drive on to Granada and. along that route, in that direction, are there interesting places to stop or lunch recommendations?

I suspect the flamingos will have left by then. Not far from there is El Torcal, a national park with hiking trails through some interesting rock formations. Then, of course there's the historic city center of Antequera, and just below the town are prehistoric dolmens (closed on Mondays).

Travelling via the coast (Malaga & Nerja) is 70km longer (about an hour) than the more direct route via Antequerra.

If you are a fan of Picasso, then you have the museum in Malaga, but I would probably choose a relaxed lunch stop in Nerja.

Chani, looked at Antequera and the dolmens . . . and that looks like just the ticket! Now . . . any place to eat around there that someone might recommend?

(From Granada we are dropping to the coast, staying near Nerja and then flying back from Malaga, so rather than drive that stretch twice - albeit in opposite directions - think we will take Chani's idea.)
