Best way to get to Tui, Spain to begin Camino

I am flying from the United States in September to walk the Camino from Tui to Santiago and am trying to figure out how to get to Tui. The closest airport seems to be Vigo but I'm having a hard time finding info on transportation to Tui. Everything I am finding goes to Valenca which is two miles away. The cheapest airport for me to fly into is Porto but I am having the same trouble with finding options to get to Tui other than private car. I keep reading there is bus service but can't find any actual routes that arrive in Tui. I must be missing something. Any suggestions or guidance would be most appreciated!

I haven't done this but had looked into it at one point. I'm pretty sure that getting to Valenca and a taxi across the border is the best bet. Train or Alsa bus.

Or Round Trip into and out of Santiago, and take a bus down.

I definitely visited Tui via bus in 2016. The round-trip cost from Vigo was 6.60 euros.

Rome2Rio.com, which is definitely not 100% reliable, says there's an ALSA bus from Santiago de Compostela that stops in Pontevedra and Vigo before getting to Tui, but for whatever reason doesn't identify that bus as an option for getting to Tui from either of those intervening towns.

The ALSA website doesn't recognize Tui as a destination (or origin), which is odd. Perhaps that bus route exists but is seasonal? You might try emailing ALSA at [email protected], mentioning what time of year you want to make the trip. Once on the ground in Galicia (Spain), the local tourist offices may be able to assist you, but I would want to nail this down ahead of time myself.

Valenca (Spain) is right across the river. If the town is large enough to have taxis (population is 14,200), I'd think the cost wouldn't be terribly high. I've never crossed the border in that area but would expect Tui to be easier to reach from the Spanish side (unless you want to take a taxi or walk); that's usually the case with small towns.

Vigo is one of Spain's least interesting cities; minimize your time there. Santiago de Compostela and Pontevedra are much more attractive.

Tui has a cute, small historic district. The cathedral is worth a stop; as of 2016 you could rent an audio guide there.

I haven't been to Valenca.

Fly to Lisbon or Porto and take the train to Valenca. From there you can walk to Tui.
