Best way to get to Seville from Toronto?

We are planning a 2 week trip in southern Spain in late April-early May. While in Spain we will travel by train, but we have to get there first! We are coming from Toronto and would like to start in Seville (but could be convinced to start elsewhere). What’s the best way (with fewest stops) to fly into the country? Is it a good idea to fly to Madrid and take the train to Seville? Open to all suggestions. Thank you!

Have you looked at Google Flights for your options out of Pearson?

Without knowing your dates, I picked a random day in late April and the shortest duration flight on that day is one with a single connection in Lisbon, with a 2 1/2 hour connection time. Which would be plenty, to allow for Passport Control, and wiggle room in case your originating flight is late. I don't believe there are any non stop flights to Madrid from TO in late April.

Thanks. Yes, I’ve checked. Thinking maybe it might be worth flying to Madrid (Air Canada flies Toronto-Madrid with a quick stop in Montreal) and spending a few days (including day trip to Toledo) then taking the high speed train to Seville.

Last year, coming from the mid-Atlantic USA, our best option was to fly to Malaga. We travelled Andalucia by car but Malaga as the entry/exit point worked well for us…plus we enjoyed the city.

I booked an Air Canada flight from Toronto to Madrid with a return from Seville. The return trip is a plane change in Lisbon and then on to Toronto,

An excellent idea especially if this is your first trip to Madrid, it's worth some free time. As far as the train you can also work in some other locations for quick tours such as Toledo or Cordoba. We did Sevilla-Cordoba-Madrid October 2023 working in a personal tour of Cordoba on the way. Highly recommend Angel Lucena Aguilar-Tablada. He gave an excellent 3 hour tour of Cordoba and got us back to the train station to catch a later train to Madrid. I'm sure you can work it the other way. Also highly recommend Iryo for the train.
