I am planning on leaving Seville Santa Justa Station at 6:00 am to catch a plane to US at 1:00 pm in Madrid Barajas Airport. Wondering what is the best way to get from Central Madrid (Madrid-Puerta de Atocha Station) to the MAD. It looks like I would have to take another train C1 or C10 to the airport. I would appreciate any input or suggestions. Also, I assume it would be best to purchase the train ticket in advance.
Thank you
The wise thing to do is be in Madrid the night before your flight
You’ll need to be at the airport by 10 am
There’s an express bus from Atocha to MAD, or you can take commuter rail to Chamartin station (many trains go there) and then catch the c1 train from chamartin to MAD terminal 4.
BUT, if you’re short on time and unfamiliar with Madrid public transit I would consider a cab or ride hailing app like uber or Cabify. Barajas airport can also be a long distance from arriving at the airport to arriving at your gate. Build in more time than you think you need as a margin of safety.
I always take the metro, but in your situation I’d just pay for a taxi.
Going to Chamartín just to get the cercanias train to the airport is out of the way and takes time you have little of.
I’m in the camp that you need to be in Madrid the night before the flight. Too many things could go wrong getting from Sevilla to Madrid. A 1pm flight means you need to be at the airport at 10am meaning you need to leave Atocha by 9:30 if taking a taxi, 9:00-9:15 if taking the metro.
If your flight out of Barajas is a transatlantic one going to the US or Canada, you're taking a risk I would avoid. The first express train from Seville doesn't get to Madrid until 8:56. An hour should be enough time to get to the airport, but sometimes things happen, and you wouldn't have much recovery time if something went wrong. Buying a replacement one-way ticket home would be an expensive proposition if you missed your flight.
