Best way to get from Toledo to Granada?

My husband and I will be traveling to Spain next month, flying into Madrid and then heading to Andalucía. Our original plan was to get into Madrid and go straight to Cordoba to spend one night before heading to Granada. To make a long story short, I realized that we would not have a chance to do the day trip to Toledo from Madrid later in our vacation that I had originally planned. So instead of getting in and heading to Cordoba, I am thinking that we will get in and head to Toledo for one night, then head to Granada, then Sevilla (we will do a day trip to Cordoba from Sevilla since we have more time there), and then spend a few days in Madrid before flying home.

My questions are, what is the best way to get from Toledo to Granada and how long will it take and how much will it cost? Also, if you have suggestions for hotels in Toledo, please let me know.

Thank you!

Without knowing what you want from 'best'.

You return to Madrid and onward by train to Granada - www.renfe.com - or if it will be a Sunday you can bus direct- www.alsa.es - or you return to Madrid on to the airport and fly.

thank you and yes, I should clarify: I would like to take either a train or bus. I am trying to figure out if I have to first return to Madrid or if there is a way to go straight from Toledo. Also, I have been reading a lot about some work on the train route to Granada, so is it easier to just take a bus and about how long will that take?

The only train to Toledo is the commuter line from Madrid. You can see prices for trains on the Renfe website. Note that they only show trains that you can buy tickets for - usually about 2 months in advance, but this varies a lot. For the trains to/from Toledo, just pick next week, the day you plan to travel. Note that the weekend schedule is different from Mon-Fri.

Njhardin,
Yes, you will need to return to Madrid ( Puerta de Atocha station) to take the train to Granada.
It will take close to 4 hours to travel from Madrid to Granada & you will have to transfer from train to bus once you reach
Antequera, due to railway renovations.

You may opt to take the bus, as Neil mentioned above, but it will take 4.5 - 5 hours to get to Granada (from Madrid).

We did a similar trip in October, but we did choose to go straight to Córdoba on our day of arrival.
This is the route we took; Córdoba>> Granada>> Sevilla>> Toledo (via Madrid), mainly because it made more sense to me to travel to Andalucía and to end our trip in Toledo before flying home from Barajas Airport.

I also didn't want to be in a train or bus for more than 3 hours, since I was traveling with my elderly mother.

Make sure you book your Alhambra tickets now because they sell very quickly.

Njhardin,
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Santa Isabel, near the cathedral in Toledo.
The price was very reasonable & it included a small breakfast.
The hotel staff were friendly & helpful. The rooms were small but comfortable & clean.
Just make sure you don't get a room on the 3rd floor, because there's a small roof terrace which may be noisy,
especially if you want to sleep before 11 pm. (Terrace closes at 11pm)

Have a wonderful trip!
