best route from pamplona up to france?

hello, and thanks for stopping by again! I will be traveling to France (and beyond) via Andorra next month, and am wondering what the best route would be via public transportation. I am also an avid hiker and would love to do a hike and/or overnight, but need to do some research. Thank you for any information, it is very much appreciated! happy travels

The access point from Spain to Andorra is La Seu d'Urgell, which has a very attractive historic center. On the French side you'll exit Andorra to Latour-de-Carol. I haven't been there since 1972 and don't remember anything about it. However, Latour-de-Carol is the termination point for the wonderful Yellow Train through the Pyrenees, which I hignly recommend. The train goes to Villefranche-sur-Conflent. (The name of the station is Villefranche-Vernet-les-Bains.) The trip on the Yellow Train is special. It's an SNCF train rather than a high-priced tourist train, thus a great bargain.

The capital of Andorra is not an attractive place; it has taken on the character of an outlet mall from what I understand--and it was already moving in that direction in 1972. The scenery is fine, of course.

The thread title says Pamplona, your post says Andorra: which one is it? Thanks for the clarification!

thanks for the info, acraven, especially the train; that sounds amazing! I would love to do an overnight in one of the huts in the Pyrenees, but we shall see. @balso, i will be traveling from spain up to germany, stopping along many different places on the way, and stringing my itinerary together almost at the last minute! any recommendations where to do an overnight in the pyrenees if my plan to stay in a hut falls through? thanks again y’all!
