Best places for day trips in Mallorca

My wife and I will be in Mallorca for 3 nights and 4 full days and I’m trying to figure out where to stay? We want to stay outside of Palma but not in a resort town, we’d like to stay in a more local beach area if possible? We are not touristy type people we like to see off the beaten path stuff and get a feel for how life is in the places we travel. We will have a car and plan on taking road trips everyday so if there is a place that would still make it easy to travel to and from everyday while exploring the majority of the island that would be amazing!

Thank you!

You might look into Port de Pollenca. It is on the far side of the island, but easily reached by bus or car. When I was there 15 years ago or so it was a place with smaller hotels, no resorts, good restaurants and bars, a nice beach in a bay with the water calmer and a tad warmer than other places along the coast.

There are a couple smaller towns nearby to visit, one with some Roman ruins, and rather dramatic scenery if you head out on the peninsula just North and East of town.

Port de Pollenca is a good recommendation, it is a small port town with a pleasant beach and waterfront. You don't state when you'll be going as the time of year is a big factor on the island.

With a car you'll be nowhere more than 1.5 hours drive from one point on the island to another. Close to Port de Pollenca is the old walled town of Alcudia (theres also Port de Alcudia but it's a bit touristy and full of resorts) which is interesting and fits the bill for a local feel. Further down is Arta which will give you a very good local experience and the nearby caves are stunning. North and west from Port de Pollenca are the charming towns of Soller, Valldemosssa and (quieter) Deia. These can be a bit busy during high season, get there early or later for less crowds.

Down in the south and southwest are the delightful beach villages and ports of Cala Pi, Colonia de Sant Jordi, Cala Santanyi and Portopetro. Close by are the towns of Santanyi, Campos and Llucmajor. Campos in particular has a very good market on Thursdays and Saturdays. It has a slow, rural atmosphere but it's very enchanting as is Santanyi. The popular and beautiful unspoilt beach of Es Trenc is nearby. You won't get the cruise ship tourist hordes bussed in to towns in the south unlike Palma, Valldemossa and Soller which are the perennial favourites.

https://www.seemallorca.com is a worthwhile and comprehensive website. There is lots to see and do, I've been visiting for years and I'm still discovering places and sights.

Thank that is exactly the info I was looking for! We will be there October 13-18 so a little out of season but keeping our fingers crossed we still get some great weather.

October's a great time to visit. It's cooled down a bit but is still sunbathing and pool weather and ideal for exploring on foot. We often visit during the October half term which is usually the last week in October and every time has been great weatherwise. I will have my usual early morning swim in the unheated pool and my kids will happily play in the pool once they've acclimatised (although they'd choose the heated pool over an unheated one at that time of year) Most restaurants are still open, it's mainly late November, December, January and early February where a number of restaurants will close.

It'll be cooler in the mountains but not enough to deter me from my shorts.
