Best part of Mallorca to stay in

We are going to be in Barcelona for a business trip at the end of February and planning to take a couple of days to spend in Mallorca. I am interested in understanding the best part of Mallorca to stay in. We will have a car and understand the island is easy to get around. We would like to explore Palma but have heard that it is a less than ideal place to stay and that we should look at Puerto de Soller or some of the other areas of the island.

Thank you!

We stayed in Palma in the Illetas area and loved it. Easy transport into Palma, lots to do. The area was pretty quiet and very beautiful.

Well the first time we went to Mallorca we decided not to stop in Palma ( we flew in and took private transfer right to our destination ) , we went to Cala D’Or .

Cala D’Or is a lovely seaside town- we loved our week there so much we decided to visit it again 2 years later .
This time we were stopping for two nights in Palma to wait for my daughter to meet up with us ( she had been backpacking around Europe for 2 months previous) .

We were wrong ! We loved Palma - it is truly a beautiful city ( at least the old section we stayed in ) I remember taking photo after photo just walking around as it was so scenic !

However , we were there in early May - before the crowds of summer descend , it was still lovely weather but not too hot .

Frankly I don’t know if end of feb is t time to visit a smaller town - there is quiet and then there is dead - and it’s not beach weather yet .
I think Palma would be better for off season .

In February the weather will generally be pleasant. A bit cool in the mornings and evenings but on a sunny day the afternoon temperatures can get warm. I haven't been in February, one of the few months I've not visited but even in December I was in shorts and T-shirts for most of the day.

It will be cooler in the mountain villages such as Soller or Valldemossa and in December a lot of restaurants were closed although many had notices stating they were opening again in February/March.

Palma is a beautiful city, one of the best in Spain and it's a year round destination. You'll be unlikely to encounter many restaurant closures, if any. You can easily spend a couple of days exploring Palma and fill some of the other time exploring the island. Parking can be an issue in central Palma so if you can find accommodation with parking or be located more on the outskirts you'll have an easier time of it.

Cala D'or is indeed a lovely town however it's very much a seaside resort and when I visited in December it was very, very quiet. Returned in June and it was a great bustling place with plenty of excellent restaurants and a lovely small cove perfect for young children to enjoy a safe paddle.

Pollenca is another favourite of mine but again, it's primarily a small fishing village and in February it will be very quiet. It has a lovely beach area but not much use at that time of the year.

I would stick with Palma.
