Best one day travel from from Pamplona to Donasta/San Sebastian to Bilbao

Four of us will be in Pamplona on Sept 5th, departing Sept 7th to Bilbao. We'd like to stop in Donasta/San Sebastián to have lunch, before going to Bilbao.
No luck so far on car hires, taxi hires or one way car rentals.
We are nervous about rideshares as they won't confirm until 2-3 days before.
Any suggestions? Only option for now is to take the train to Bilbao and skip San Sebastián.

Pamplona to San Sebastián is faster on the bus than on the train -- a search for Pamplona > San Sebastián buses on 5 September show a number of direct buses on Alsa as fast as 1h and with more frequencies during the day.

Very easy. Bus is the best option, as there are frequent departures to Donostia-San Sebastián from Iruña-Pamplona. The trip takes around one hour and a half. Lunch time in the Basque Country is normally around 2pm, and it´s the big meal of the day, so allow time for lunch. Very frequent departures from D-SS to Bilbao daily (it takes 1.5h), so that should not be an issue. I´d say (as a local) that there´s no need for reservations on the bus, there are quite a few daily. Buses are excellent, clean, cheap, modern and very efficient.

Just wondering why 2 days in Pamplona, if you want to see the city half a day is more than enough.

I agree with everything Mikel said, including the comment about Pamplona. There are lots of more interesting places to visit.

Do you see a current schedule on Alsa? I didn't when I searched the site.

Yes. When I searched for Pamplona to San Sebástian/Donostia (this is the link for my results, though this link may not be "stable") I see 10 buses (earliest departure 06:55, latest departure 20:00), including 4 that are nonstop.
